The emu, a strange bird indeed... salutary and delicious,
a gift from nature.

The Centre de l’émeus de Charlevoix is the largest emu centre in Québec and is located on the site of Chez Gertrude. You can find here more than 400 emus of all ages. There is an agricultural production centre specialized in emu and an emu by-products distribution and valorization (emu meat of all kinds, emu oil and other body products).

During winter, Chez Gertrude informs you on the emu and its by-products and about the laying of eggs, incubation and hatching happening between December and June.

The emu egg is awesome by its size and by its color ranging between dark green and emerald green. you will find them "au naturel" or painted (photos).

Each painted emu egg is unique and signed by an internationaly renowned artist of Charlevoix. Those eggs make egg colectors and art lovers or those looking for an authentic and original gift happy.

The emu meat is very lean (less than 2% fat), a new bright red product, and rich in protein, iron and zinc. It has a mild taste. It is a "healthful" meat. Cooked by a Chef, this exotic meat is tasty and tender and is a choice meal to be savoured.

Emu meat is also available in pâté, in 5 varieties of sausages (gluten free), smoked emu, Charlevoix meat pâté, in stuffed pancakes and in many canned products, including our excellent emu Bolognese spaghetti sauce.
